DHARWAD: On the sidelines of Kalon Karma Gelek Yuthok’s visit to Tibetan monasteries to greet spiritual heads of the various Tibetans Buddhist schools, he attended a conference on Dr B R Ambedkar at Dharwad, Karnataka.
The conference titled ‘International Conference on Creating Better World: Dr. B.R. Ambedkar’s Vision and Perspectives’ was held at Karnataka University, Dharwad on 4 October. He attended the conference at the invitation of Sera Jey monastic college and the Indian University.
At the conference, Kalon spoke on secular ethics, religious harmony, universal responsibility and compassion and tolerance as basic tenets of Buddhism.
This program was part of an effort by Tibetan Buddhist monasteries to collaborate with Indian universities and colleges to promote exchange of ideas and Buddhist philosophies and sciences, as advised by His Holiness the Dalai Lama.
Following the conference, Kalon left for Sera Jey monastery at Bylakuppe where he paid a visit to greet Jangtse Choejey Rinpoche. He also visited Sera Jey and Mey monasteries, and Thekchok Namdroling monastery.
He then visited Hunsur and Kollegal to inspect the condition of the Tibetan settlements and the monasteries.
Kalon will be back in Dharamshala on 14 October.
