Dharamshala: The Department of Religion and Culture of the Central Tibetan Administration recently inaugurated the Culture section in order to preserve and promote the distinct culture of Tibet which are on the verge of extinction in Tibet.
The main aim of establishing the culture section is to conduct awareness programs and workshops on Tibetan culture for the young generation of Tibet, to work in collaboration with Tibetan Cultural institutions under this Department and to support Tibetan monastic institutions and other cultural organizations who have been working for the preservation of Tibetan culture.
Though the department has worked for the preservation of both Tibetan Religion and Culture since its inception as a Council for Religious Affair in 1959 by His Holiness the Dalai Lama, however, due to the continued extinction of Tibetan culture and arts in Tibet under various policies of China that is aimed at complete assimilation of thousand years old distinct culture of Tibet, the new independent section was established to devise more effort on cultural affairs of Tibet.
