Dharamshala: Secretary Dhondul Dorjee from the Department of Religion and Culture, Central Tibetan Administration, attended the annual ritual practices of invoking, making offerings, and requesting blessings and protection from Yidam Hayagriva and the five forms of protector Nechung Choegyal at Nechung Monastery on 26 May 2025.
As part of the monastery’s long-standing tradition, held annually from the 22nd day of the third month to the 10th day of the fourth month of the Tibetan lunar calendar (falling this year from 19 May to 5 June), the 18-day historic ritual was conducted with a series of ceremonies, including purification and consecration of tormas (dough offerings) on the initial days. These were followed by chanting and the accumulation of sacred mantras to invoke the deities and request their performance of duties, eventually concluding with expressions of gratitude. The ritual then ended with fire pujas and the throwing of torma offerings.
These religious rituals, conducted over the course of 18 days, aim to seek the assistance of Yidam and the protectors in ensuring the continued flourishing of Buddhism, as well as the fulfilment of the noble wishes and well-being of His Holiness the Dalai Lama and all other revered upholders of Buddhism. They are also performed for the swift resolution of the Tibet-China conflict and the cessation of all forms of calamities in the world, including wars, disasters, epidemics, and famines.
