Dharamshala: Continuing his official engagements in Dehradun, Kalon Tsegyal Chukya Dranyi addressed the local Tibetan communities of Dekyiling Settlement and visited monasteries and local Tibetan community in Kham Lingtsang Settlement in Manduwala on 27 August 2026.
Speaking to the public at Dekyiling Settlement’s Potala Hall at 9:30 am, Kalon addressed the gathering and answered questions from the audience. He stated that his visit as the Kalon for Religion and Culture was aimed at paying courtesy calls on senior religious heads and to visit local monasteries, governmental and non-governmental organisations, and hold public meetings.
The Kalon covered a range of topics, including a brief introduction to the priorities and composition of the 17th Kashag and an outline of the administration’s political stance and general approach to its work. These include fulfilling the wishes of His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama while ensuring that its actions do not cause him concern or disappoint Tibetans inside Tibet; carrying out the Kashag’s work strictly within the law and through collective effort; further strengthening security arrangements for His Holiness in coordination with the Government of India; amplifying the CTA’s position on the reincarnation of His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama and continuing to seek further international support, in addition to that already received from 38 countries, including the United States; engaging respectfully with the other two pillars and autonomous bodies of the CTA in accordance with the principle of separation of powers; upholding the Middle Way Approach, unanimously adopted by the Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile and endorsed by His Holiness, as the CTA’s political stance; respecting non-governmental organisations and refraining from interfering in their work; advancing digital archives, digital libraries and other modern technological systems to keep pace with the times; and placing greater emphasis on nurturing and directly guiding Tibetan youth leadership in carrying forward political activities.
Kalon Tsegyal Chukya Dranyi also spoke on confronting the China’s abuse of Panchen Lama’s position through Chinese appointed Gyaltsen Norbu; efforts to secure the release of the legitimate 11th Panchen Lama Gedun Choekyi Nyima and other political prisoners; overall key ongoing projects of DoRC, including Neykor App and digital library and responded to the question from the public. Following this, he met informally with retired CTA staff, and then visited the Local Tibetan Assembly Hall of Dekyiling Settlement.
Following that, the Kalon travelled to Kham Lingtsang Settlement at Manduwala, where he was received by former Tibetan Parliamentarian Tsering Dorjee, along with the local staff. After lunch, Kalon met with the local public at the settlement’s assembly hall and reiterated the talk that he delivered at Dekyiling
He subsequently visited Palpung Kunkhyab Choeling Monastery, the Tibetan Primary Health Care Centre in Dekyiling, Ngor Ewam Choden Monastery and Shedra, Za MongyalYundrungling Monastery, Dzogchen Shri Singhe Thekchen Dongag Choeling, Sakya College for Nuns, holding discussions with each monastery’s head and abbot. With this, the fourth day of visits to settlements under the Dehradun jurisdiction was successfully concluded.
