Secretary Dhondul Dorjee Attends Conclusion of Chakhar Chenmo Ritual at Gyuto Tantric Monastery

Dharamshala: On 5 February 2026, at 5:30 pm, a special session marking the successful completion of the Chakhar Chenmo ritual, including the fire offering (jinsek) and the wrathful torma ritual, was held at Gyuto Tantric Monastery. As invited, the Secretary of the Department of Religion and Culture (CTA), Dhondul Dorjee, attended the occasion as a guest.

The series of religious activities was organised by Gyuto Tantric Monastery with the objective of promoting the well-being of all sentient beings, world peace, and the welfare of Tibet and its people, and in particular, to offer long-life prayers for His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama.

The ritual programme commenced on 30 January 2026 at the monastery’s newly constructed assembly hall. Under the guidance of two presiding abbots and with the participation of a large gathering of monks, the preliminary retreat of the Iron Fortress (Chakhar Chenmo) practice was undertaken. This was followed by the main ritual in accordance with the intent of the third explanatory tantra of Vajrabhairava. The programme included the intensive Chakhar Chenmo ritual and culminated on 5 February with the fire offering ceremony, followed by the performance of the wrathful torma ritual.

During the torma ritual, a large number of devoted lay followers gathered to receive blessings and pay their respects.

The primary purpose of the torma ritual was to offer prayers for the long life of His Holiness the Dalai Lama, for the flourishing of his enlightened activities of body, speech and mind, and for the pacification of obstacles, negative forces and adverse circumstances affecting individuals. The rituals were thus marked by numerous spiritual benefits and auspicious aspirations.
