The six-month intensive workshop on Tibetan language and Buddhist Philosophy for Tibetan youth held in Gyudmey Snowland School, Hunsur from 1 July 2015 – 31 January 2016 had concluded successfully.
The chief guests of the closing ceremony were Mr Dhondup Dorjee Gyalling, Secretary of the Department of Religion and Culture and Ven Khen Rinpoche Geshe Lobsang Phende. Other attendees included Mr Tsundue Rabgyal, Chairman of Hunsur Local Assembly and representative from Hunsur Tibetan settlement.
Over 150 people have attended the closing ceremony. The workshop was concluded with distribution of awards and course-completion certificates by the chief guests. The students also presented a short dialectic debate.
The intensive workshop enabled the students to learn Tibetan Buddhist philosophy in-depth as a branch of science and the five major treatises of Tibetan Buddhism and Tibetan grammar, prose and poetry. It also focused on preservation of Tibet’s rich religious and cultural heritage as envisioned by His Holiness the Dalai Lama.
This was the second workshop, jointly organised by the Department of Religion of the Central Tibetan Administration and Snowland Gangchen Rigney, Gyudmey Tantric University.
The Snowland school for Tibetan studies was formally inaugurated on 7 December 2011. It was established after His His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s recommendation during his visit to Gyudmey monastery in 2007, to begin a school specially designed to meet the needs of students wishing to study Buddhism and Tibetan culture in India.
