Dharamshala: Summer Immersion Program for Tibetan students studying at private schools across India began at the College for Higher Tibetan Studies (CHTS), Sarah, on 25 May. The program is organized by the Department of Religion and Culture, Central Tibetan Administration, in collaboration with CHTS.
The chief guest at the inaugural ceremony of the program was Secretary Chime Tseyang of the Department of Religion and Culture (DRC), CTA. Other guests at the inaugural ceremony include Principal Passang Tsering of CHTS and Additional Secretary Dudul Dorje of the Department of Religion and Culture.
Following a brief introduction of the program, Principal Passang Tsering spoke about the program’s focus on Tibetan language, religion, history, and culture, to enhance awareness of Tibetan cultural education. He also explained that the organizers have included various activity classes like meditation, calligraphy, traditional dance, and music classes to make the program more interesting to the students. A tour of various Tibetan institutions and organizations in Dharamshala is also scheduled for exposure.
In her inaugural remarks, Secretary Chime Tseyang commended the students for participating in the program and urged the students to fully utilize the opportunity to enhance their knowledge of Tibetan culture, language, and history during the month-long program. Emphasizing the significance of the elder generation’s struggle, experience, and contribution to the Tibetan movement, she advised the students to interact and listen to their parents and grandparents to understand their roots despite growing up in non-Tibetan institutions. She further urged them to display enthusiasm in learning more about Tibet in their life mentioning the weightage of special responsibility they carry as Tibetans.
Before concluding the inaugural event, Additional Secretary applauded the organizers, facilitators, and participants for the successful inauguration of the program.
