The Department of Religion and Culture, in collaboration with Central University of Tibetan Studies, organised a three-day research methodology workshop from 23 – 25 January for the second batch of Major Text Specialisation candidates at the Central University of Tibetan Studies (CUTS), Varanasi.
The chief guest at the opening ceremony of the workshop was Geshe Yeshi Thabkey (Retd. Professor) and Ven Losang Norbu Shastri, Vice-Chancellor of CUTS.
Resource persons at the workshop include Dr Penpa Dorje, Dr Tashi Tsering, Prof Lhakpa Tsering, Acharya Gyaltsen Namdol, Dr Wangchuk Dorje Negi, Geshe Yungdrung Gelek, Dr Lobsang Dorje Rabling, Geshe Beri Jigme Wangyal, Ngawang Tsepak Shastri and Dr Narsi Lal.
The three-day workshop focused on the techniques and approaches of research methodology including writing style, bibliography, citations, as well as the analysis of Buddhist and Bon canons.
Mr Thupten Tsering, Joint Secretary of Department of Religion and Culture facilitated the workshop.
The candidates of the workshop included research scholars and Geshes from the four schools of Tibetan Buddhism and Bon religion, selected in 2015, by the Department of Religion and Culture.
The workshop was held as part of the Department of Religion and Culture’s efforts to encourage in-depth study of the Tibetan canons on the direction of His Holiness the Dalai Lama during the 11th biannual conference of the leaders of the four schools of Tibetan Buddhism and Bon religion in 2011.
