
Dharamshala: The Tibetan Institute of Performing Arts (TIPA) organised a two-day meeting on 3 and 4 July 2024 to discuss the importance of revising the existing Tibetan cultural education syllabus in accordance with modern standards.
Besides members of the 2018 syllabus drafting committee members, the meeting was attended by the Additional Secretary of the Department of Education, Ven Thupten Yarphel and Geshe Lobsang Dakpa from Namgyal Tantric College Principal and Scriptural Master.
During the meeting, the drafting committee was joined by new members, including Geshe Ngawang Samten, former Vice Chancellor of CIHTS, Sarnath Varanasi; Kunga Gyaltsen, Additional Secretary of the Department of Religion and Culture; Dr Lhakpa Tsering, Assistant Professor in the Department of Tibetan Language and Literature at CIHTS; Dr Sonam Gyaltsen and Dr Tsangtruk Topla, lecturers at the College for Higher Tibetan Studies, Sarah; Telnakpa Lodoe Palsang, Professor of Tibetan Literature at Dzongsar Institute; and the Director, Artistic Director, and Researcher and Literature Teacher of Tibetan Institute of Performing Arts.
In revising the Tibetan Cultural Education Syllabus, the curriculum on Tibetan drama art’s theory and practice is classified into five principal subject areas. These encompass the progressive evolution of Tibetan theatre art, the cultivation of the traditional ‘Lhamo’ opera, and the comprehensive advancement of Tibetan performing arts over time.
