The historical first year Geshema Degree Examination was held at Jamyang Choeling Nunnery, Dharamsala from May 20 to June 3, 2013. Twenty seven nuns – six from Jangchub Choeling, Dharamsala; two from Geden Choeling, Dharamsala; two from Kopan, Kathmandu; ten from Dolma Ling, Dharamsala and seven from Jamyang Choeling nunnery, Mundgod participated in this examination.
Exam time table was set with a one day gap between each test except optional subjects in order to facilitate the candidates for proper preparation. In the first year there are three main (Pharchin, Uma, and Tsema) and three optional (Tibetan Grammar, History, and Modern Science) subjects.
Four Geshe Lharampas, were invited from Sere, Drepung, and Gaden monasteries to examine the oral test and answer paper of main subjects were checked by six Geshe Lharampas, two for each papers.
Thus, with the help of sponsorship from Tibet Fund and collaboration from the Geshes of Sera, Drepung, and Gaden monastery, the first year examination was arranged successfully. The result was announced on the eve of birthday of His Holiness the Dalai Lama through official website of Central Tibetan Administration.
Out of twenty seven candidates, two have failed because of not reaching required minimum forty marks in main subjects. The three rank holders and their percentages are as follows:

We are indeed very thankful to the Tibet Fund for providing us with the much needed funding to conduct the examination efficiently. This funding has helped Department of Religion & Culture to implement the wishes of His Holiness and bring about positive changes in the system of Tibetan traditional learning.
